what they tell us and what they can't
There’s no metaphor that can make this picture feel easier less emotional less jarring. How time passes how babies grow how seasons change what shadows are for. It’s all right here in the sharp relief of early autumn light. I take comfort in the photo existing at all. In the effort love takes. In the way my kids shy away from neither color nor pattern, also not a metaphor though wouldn’t it be a beautiful one.
